TO GROW, YOU MUST EMBRACE CHANGE
Unless you’re willing to do something beyond what you’ve mastered, you’ll never grow. With this reality comes the value of change.
Hebert Spencer, a distinguished Philosopher and Sociologist once observed, “A living thing is distinguished from a dead thing by the multiplicity of change taking place in it at any given moment.” The implication here is that change is inevitable in our lives.
People change. Seasons change. Kingdoms change. And actually, everything changes. The only thing that is constant is change itself.
Really, for there to be any kind of progress, we must embrace change. As crucial as fuel is to a jet’s engine so is change. Without it, there is no progress!
Despite change being the lifeblood of progress, it surprises me how so many people abhor change. Even though everyone wants to progress, we don’t want to change. Too often we become complacent and comfortable with our current situations. We get used to a certain way of things and prefer to hold on to the old. In essence, we fear change.
Embracing change begins with changing your mind. You see, unless you change your mind, you cannot change your actions. And really, with where the world is going today, yesterday’s methods will not work in the 21st century. To put up with the pace of globalization, you must have a mind that is open to new experiences and is ready to accept change.
If you hold on to the old, you’ll never receive the new. You’ll not be open to new experiences and as a result, you’ll get stuck in your comfort zone and never make any significant progress.
John Patterson said it so bluntly: “Only fools and dead men don’t change their minds. Fools won’t. Dead men can’t.”
Let’s embrace change. And yes, it might be painful or uncomfortable but we can’t hide from the fact that change is an inevitable ingredient necessary for growth!
