HAVE YOU PREPARED YOUR FIELD? (Don’t just wait, wait well!)
Any wise crop-farmer who depends on rain to farm will tell you that the best time to prepare your field is during the dry season. Early preparations give the farmer ample time to do all the necessary pre-planting activities before the rains come.
Finally, when the rains come, the seeds are already in the soil. That means the wise farmer makes the most out of the rainy season.
Now, let’s flip the coins and consider a foolish farmer. This kind of a farmer, just like the wise farmer, eagerly waits for the rains. However, he has one problem. He does nothing to prepare for it. During the dry season, as the wise farmer is preparing his field, the foolish farmer is loitering around, gossiping, and talking to people about how eagerly he’s waiting for the rains.
When the rains begin, that’s when you see the foolish farmer with an umbrella. Where is he going? You wonder. Well, he’s going to the hardware-shop to acquire a jembe and some other land preparation tools.
The first few weeks goes by and this farmer is still running helter-skelter.
Due to the heavy rains pouring during this period, his time to stay out in the farm is limited. A time and again, the foolish farmer is forced to go back to his house to seek shelter from the pouring rains. Actually, the rain he eagerly waited is now a disgrace to him. He can’t stay out in the farm for an hour without being interrupted by the rains.
Two months into the rainy season and the foolish farmer has nothing to show. The rain is gone when you finally see him coming from the ‘Agrovet’. This time he’s carrying a packet of seeds!
Surely, you’ll agree with me that the foolish farmer has lost it and missed the season! He eagerly waited for the rain; the rain came but he wasn’t prepared to receive it. The golden opportunity passed him by.
Everywhere I go, I see this analogy in play. The vast majority of people fall into the category of the foolish farmer. They wait for opportunities while folding their hands and doing nothing.
If you don’t take time to prepare, you won’t have a chance when the opportunity suddenly occurs.
For whatever opportunity you desire, don’t ask whether or not the opportunity will come. The big question should be: Are you prepared to receive?
The fact is opportunities will come, the question is, will they find you ready? No matter how much you crave for opportunities, if they find you unprepared, they’ll pass you by!
Today I want to challenge you to not just wait but wait well. Just like the wise farmer, be prepared to receive so that when an opportunity comes, you’ll just take off and fly with it!
