Commitment to excellence - James Serengia - James Serengia

COMMIT YOURSELF TO EXCELLENCE

In an interview at an entrepreneurship forum I recently attended, a lady who leads one of the top cake-baking companies in Kenya was asked: “What makes you stand out in a market that is already flooded?”

The lady said something that stuck with me: “What makes me stand out is my commitment to excellence.” She then added, “I never compromise on the quality of my cakes, at whatever cost.”

Studying high achievers, I have learned that the common denominator between them is their commitment to excellence. Having identified their niche in life, they’ve gone a notch higher and mastered the art of combining their passion with skills to produce a masterpiece of anything they do.

In whatever field you are, your success will be in direct proportion to your commitment to excellence. You want to be an exceptional worker, leader, parent, student, athlete, musician, actor, writer? Here is the secret: Pour your whole heart and skills into what you’re doing.

Martin Luther King, Jr. said it so eloquently, “If it falls to your lot to be a street sweeper, sweep streets like Michelangelo painted pictures, sweep streets like Beethoven composed music. Sweep streets like Shakespeare wrote poetry. Sweep streets so well that all the host of heaven and earth will have to pause and say: Here lived a great street sweeper who swept his job well.”

Challenge yourself to up your game. Focus on being the best in your field.
Let everything you touch bring a smile to your face and to the faces of those around you.

The Bible also teaches us to be diligent. It says, “Whatever your hands finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the realm of the dead, where you’re going, there is neither working nor knowledge nor wisdom.” — Eccl 9:10.

And, 1st Peter 4:10 says, “Each one of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”
