DARE TO TAKE A STEP OF FAITH!
As the Israelites were getting into the promised land, they came to the river Jordan. It was a time just after the long rains and the river was flooded to its brim.
For three days, the Israelites had been camping along the banks of the river. They were still contemplating on how to cross when God, through his servant Joshua, instructed them to prepare for the crossing. God also gave them an instruction which was the key to their crossing being successful. Upon reaching river Jordan, God instructed them to put their feet in the water before He could provide a way through the flooded river.
As long as they stayed on the riverbank, God wasn’t going to divide the water. They had to take a step of faith and put their feet in the water first.
Approaching the riverbank, I’m sure the Israelites wondered and thought of things like, “Hey, wait a minute, where are we going? Can’t you see these raging floods!? What if we drown and the water sweeps us away?”
Well, with great reluctance, perhaps everyone waiting to see who will risk and go first, the priests among them went right towards the water.
It is amazing that immediately their feet touched the water, the water upstream stopped flowing. It piled up in a heap a great distance away, while the water flowing down completely drained. (See Joshua 3:14-16).
The Israelites crossed through river Jordan on dry ground and God’s power was displayed in a mighty way.
This is what I call faith. You don’t see how you are going to make headway, but you press on anyway! The situation is gloomy, with not even a single sign of a breakthrough, but you keep on keeping on! You’re seeing floods ahead, but you match forth regardless!
Friends, I’ve realized that without faith which is demonstrated by our willingness to take risks, it is impossible to do anything profound. I believe God often gives us dreams that are so big so that we learn to fully depend on Him. In essence, dreams from God are often so big to be accomplished without faith in Him.
I don’t know but right now as you read this you could be having that big intimidating dream inside you and maybe you’re stuck at the banks of river Jordan, so to speak. I dare you to take that bold step towards your dream.
Don’t die with that dream and those treasures still in you. We need your business ideas; we need your books; we need your songs; we need your innovations, and we desperately need your gifts.
Just take a bold step of faith and there is no limit as to what God can do in you and through you.
Remember, we serve a Mighty God, the creator of heaven and earth. He is the one who flung the stars in the sky. He is one who knitted you together in your mother’s womb. He is one who placed that big dream and desire in you. And he is the one who will see you through to your promised land.
Put your foot in the Jordan river and you’ll be amazed at what God can do!
