THE MAN IN THE ARENA

Believe in your mission, not the critic who points fingers from the cheap seats of mediocrity. Hear me, the critic is often someone who has given up on their dreams and seeking for company.

To encourage you, allow me to share this short excerpt of a speech delivered in Paris in 1910 by Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th President of the United States of America:

β€œIt is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errors, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement; and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat.”

Devote your whole self to your mission and ignore those who ridicule your project. Every great project was first ridiculed. Think of how people ridiculed Noah’s Ark! They told him he was out of his mind until the door of the ark was shut. In the business world, I vividly remember how taxi drivers rioted at the inception of Uber. Now, it is almost impossible to survive without Uber!

Lastly, for a true warrior, there is nothing like failure. You either succeed or get a learning experience. Aim for progress, not perfection. You’ll get better as you move along, only don’t quit!
